Mentor Text: Above and Beyonce

This article written by Lisa Robinson, who is an American journalist and writer born on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is about Beyonce. I feel that basically all people know about Beyonce, but most, at least not myself, know her story and who she actually is. This article is a deeper dive into her life. It uses an interview style, with Beyonce herself, but also some of her family and friends. It feels more just like a conversation and less of a formal interview. The article takes us on the journey of how she got to where she is, but also shows us how Beyonce is a person just like us. Normally when we think of celebrity’s, they feel so removed from reality, and I admit that I never thought too much about how Beyonce may be as a person, but it is clear from this interview at least that she is a lot similar to regular people than one would think. She cares about her family a lot, and said in the interview, “I’m a mother. I don’t care what they say about me, but when it’s about our kids, I’m ready to get them.” She also seems to be a genuinely kind person, which is uncommon nowadays with celebrities. Robinson said, “The first I noticed about Beyonce are her impeccable manners— so unusual in a big star." Overall, I think this sheds a light on how Beyonce is a person just like us, and has her own life aside from being a celebrity.
